Biography

Ian is the Singapore CEO and Deputy CEO of Asia Pacific for abrdn. He began his career in London with Price Waterhouse and, after qualifying as a chartered accountant, he moved to Lazard to become an M&A and Restructuring investment banker. Joining HSBC in 2004 gave him the opportunity to move from London to Hong Kong in 2005 to develop an APAC private equity coverage team. In 2008 the equities boutique fund manager, Arisaig Partners, gave him the opportunity to move into asset management and to Singapore which has been home since. Formerly British, he is now a Singapore citizen. 

Ian is an alum of Harvard Business School (Advanced Management Program), the International Institute for Management Development (Programme for Executive Development) and INSEAD (International Directors Programme). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, a Singapore Institute of Directors’ Senior Accredited Director and a Male Champion for the Financial Women’s Association Singapore.

Ian is honorary secretary of the Investment Management Association Singapore and a former member of the executive committee of the Asia Securities Institute and Financial Markets Association’s Asset Management Group. Ian led the development of an e-learning course – “Sustainable investing in practice: An introduction” – that has been made freely available to industry practitioners and students in Singapore via the IMAS iLearn platform.
